Yummy Pocket Pillow by Cheryl Dack

Hello again, Sweets! Yay for a long weekend!!! As promised I am going to show you one of the two projects that I'll be teaching to those of you who registered for the Online Art Retreat by Sweet Six Studio: Yummy Pocket Pillows.

I had so much fun making this project and I can't wait to teach you to make it, as well!

I will teach you to how to very simply construct the pillow and pocket portion using the most basic stitch on your sewing machine. Nothing fancy here!

I have a very easy way to make ruffles that I can't wait to share with you. You won't ever do a gather-stitch again!

Then I will walk you through preparing the cupcake shape and appliqueing it to the pillow. Those of you who don't wish to use your sewing machine to make the pocket pillow portion can simply follow the applique instructions and learn to hand-applique things to....well, anything! I've found this is a really easy and cute way to embellish children's clothing.

If you haven't registered for our Online Art Retreat, it is not too late! During the month of September, registrants will learn a total of 12 step-by-step projects and at least 6 decorating tutorials, starting Tuesday, September 2nd. Don't miss out...it's going to be such fun!

Girls, I am soooo excited about this! I LOVE every single one of the other girls that I've been working with to put this retreat on. We've all become fast friends and we are all looking forward to meeting and getting to know each one of YOU that take part in this retreat.

We would LOVE to be able to invite each and every one of you over to our studios and sit down across the table from you while we learn to create something together. But the next best thing is this online retreat....we won't be in the same room but we are looking forward to the same sort of friendly "togetherness."

We know that each and every one of you has a a creative spark that is unique and we can't wait to see how YOU make each of these projects in your own special way! And our hope is that at the close of this retreat, we will have drawn that many more incredible women into our circle of friendship.

Art and Friendship. Two of my favorite things. And we get to experience both of those in a deeper way...together! Hoping to see YOU there...we've saved a spot just for you! :)

Embellished Ribbon Lanterns ~~ By, Heather Kowalski

IMG_4405 (2)

Hello there sweet gals!!! Today I am SO excited to show you the first project that I will be instructing for our Sweet Six Studio online Art Retreat. Oh my goodness... I can't WAIT to get started and from the feedback we are getting it seems that many of you are too. woohoo!

Lantern1

Ok... onto to the business at hand.. this is SUCH a sweet project. My idea came for this when I wanted to hang something in my studio above my desk. I have created two different styles so you can see that by changing a few elements it is easy to make a gorgeous ribbon lantern for your own.. and to suit your own taste.

The super fun part about this project is that you can rummage through your goody stash ...oooh and I KNOW you have some goodies laying around... ;))... and pull out some of your favorite baubles and trims and whip one up for yourself. They make sweet whimsical decorations and can even be taken outside for when you entertain.

Lantern2

I want to give you all a little tip before we get started.... the lanterns can be found at local party stores (found some in the baby and wedding section at mine).. or places like Ikea... or even Online. BUT.. here are a few ideas for other things if you for some reason can't find a lantern.

1. If you have a lamp shade in a pleasing shape it would work just as nicely by adding a hanging ribbon to the top.

2. A paper mache box found at local craft stores in a round or oval shape. Just take the lid off and add some hanging ribbons...

3. The grocery store is likely a great place to find something in the shape of a lantern. Those really large tin cans or even oatmeal contatiners that are large and round... they would work perfectly.

So go out and get your lanterns...make sure you are signed up for the fun... and SOON we will create these little pretties together!! Can't wait to see where YOU will hang yours. ;)

We will be getting started soon... can't wait to see you there!!! xoxo Heather

Hello sweet friends!

I am so excited to share a peek of one of my upcoming projects in the Sweet Six Studio!

I have loved these beautiful fabric brooches for a long time, and often wear them attached to my tote bags and purses... I also love to pin them onto my coats and sweaters in the colder weather.

I think you will find these pretty brooches EASY PEASY to make. I love short and sweet projects that I can complete in just a little bit of time, don't you?

Decorated Bath Bottle with Homemade Scented Bath Crystals ~ By Natasha Burns

Hello lovely people!

Natasha here today.  I'm so excited to share with you one of the projects I'll take you through, step-by-step at our online art retreat, starting September 2nd.

I love making gifts for people, especially friends and family who love them even more because they know the gift was made just for them, with love and care.

So with that in mind, my first project I'll be teaching is how to make this lovely decorated bath bottle - going through each step with you... even how to make the crystals to fill the bottle!

13 august 029

The label is one I designed and illustrated myself, specially for this project, so you won't find it anywhere else.  It will be available to download and print, to use on your own bottle.

I'll also give any tips and suggestions for alternative trims to use, and a few ingredient alternatives for the bath crystals too.

Hope you'll enjoy making this one... see you at the "retreat"!

Embellished Wallpaper Photo Boards ~ By, Holly Abston

Hi Sweet Girls, Hollly Here.  Every few days, we will be showing you a few of the projects we have planned for the Sweet Six Studio Online Art Retreat that starts on September 2. We won’t show you all of them, of course, gotta have a little mystery!  Just a little taste at the things that await you if you come play with us!  Here is one of my projects, Embellished Wallpaper Photo Boards.  I will show you how to make these heavy, strong boards and made in a way that you can change your photos out at whim.  I love them!

This pinkish/beige one I’ve been calling “Apron Strings” because I snipped off the ties of a sweet old apron to use as an embellishment.  Very sentimental to me.  You know I love anything about motherhood.  I’ve been singing that song for days.

I’ll show you how to make the boards, with step by step photos showing me making this actual baord, as well as written directions.

Here’s another I made with the same techniques, but larger to hold two pictures:

here it is without the pictures:

This is something I developed myself because I LOVE the wonderful old paper portraits I’d seen others make, but I wanted to use photos of my family and people I loved.  I didn’t want to sew or glue them on because I change my mind about pictures and like to see new ones out now and then.  Also, i wanted something sturdier, not just paper.  So I developed this technique.  Necessity is the mother of invention!  I can’t wait to share it with you in our workshops.  You’ll love making your own with your own paper and embellishments and photos of your own little cherubs or other loved ones.  I’ve also made these in larger squares, 18 x18, they come out very cool.  I’ll show those pictures in the workshop too.

Oh, you won’t believe the gorgeous things the girls have planned for you!  And give-aways!  Sooo many give-aways.  We’ve had such a huge response already and I am touched and humbled, girls.  Thank you so much for joining up with us and for the sweet comments here and on our individual blogs.  Wow.  You guys know how to make a girl feel loved.  I’m so excited to get to play with you and make cool stuff along side you.  It’s something I wish we could all do in person, but since we can’t always do that, this is such a great way to get together.  Can’t we all just chip in and buy an island somewhere and all move there?  That would rock.

OK, I hope you like my project.  I’m keeping my other one under wraps, but some of the other sweet girls will be sharing a project or two with you soon.

Have a happy Saturday. XO
